ASYNCHRONOUS
The PCT-100 has two RS-232 ports which operate in the asynchronous mode,
the same used by a majority of computer equipment manufacturers.
BIDIRECTIONAL
The PCT-100 contains two virtual translation processors that can
translate data simultaneously in both directions at rates up to 19.2 kilobaud with
handshaking.
PROGRAMMABLE
Implementing translation algorithms for the PCT-100 is similar to
programming in a simple language. Communications Translation Language (CTL) allows the
user to access and manipulate data within the unit. CTL is "ASSEMBLY MADE EASY".
EASE OF USE
Both the CTL instruction set and the editor are based upon relatively
simple and consistent commands. A few hours will be required by the programmer to review
the PCT-100 architecture and commands. Then programming is a relatively simple task.

CONFIGURATION ENTRY
Configuration of the PCT-100 can be performed from almost any RS-232 ACSII device. The
PCT will automatically adapt itself to the programming device characteristics, including
baud rate, bits per character, and parity. Video or hard-copy terminals can be used with
equal ease.. A built-in editor allows CTL programs to be entered or modified. After entry,
a user may run, debug, and then finally save his program in non-volatile memory. Upon
power-up, the programs stored in non-volatile memory will be automatically loaded into the
PCT for real-time operation.
DOWNLOADING
Programs and configuration data may be loaded from a host CPU or PC in the same format
as entered from a terminal. The host must support either hardware or software handshaking.
PROGRAM SIZE
Translation programs can range from 300 to 900 lines of CTL total for both channels
(600 typically); the exact number is dependent on the configuration since PCT provides
both programs and data space. The available storage may be divided as needed between the
two channels.
DATA BUFFERING
The PCT has about 768 bytes of buffer space for each channel. There are two register
sets of 256 bytes, an imput buffer of 256 bytes and output buffer of 128 bytes. Extra
register sets are optional.
